Back in 2017, CoGen’s 26.5MWe RDF advanced waste gasification treatment facility on an industrial site at Hooton Park in Hooton, Cheshire, moved a step closer to the start of construction with the signing of the feedstock agreement with Dutch alternative fuel supplier N+P Group.

N+P Group, as part of a 15-year agreement will supply Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) to all CoGen’s portfolio of projects, with this contract seeing 240,000tpa of municipal waste sourced from the local community for the Hooton project.

CoGen’s Hooton site is fully permitted for an Energy from Waste plant, has secured a grid access agreement and will utilize Fluidised Bed Advanced Gasification technology.

Construction on the project will commence later this year and once operational in 2020 it will provide enough energy to the grid to power 50,000 homes for the next 20 years.

Chief executive of CoGen, Ian Brooking, commented: “We are delighted to be partnering with the N+P Group on Hooton and are excited to be working with them going forward to deliver multiple similar projects. CoGen has a significant pipeline of projects coming through and is now firmly established as the major player in advanced gasification in the UK.”

Karel Jennissen CEO of N+P Group BV commented “We look forward to a strong working relationship with CoGen and we are even further enthused regarding expanding this relationship further in many other locations”

CoGen’s £135m Hooton Bio Power plant will use ‘Advanced Conversion Technology’ to process up to 240,000tpa per year of RDF diverting them from being buried in landfill sites.

About N+P Group
With the parent company based in the Netherlands N+P is a globally recognized provider of alternative fuels to a number of industries including the energy from waste (EFW) sector. This will be the first of a number of CoGen EFW plants to which N+P will be the feedstock supplier.
