In this video, Michael Kolijn shares his journey within the recycling industry and his experience at N+P, giving an inside look at the growth and development of the company from the early days in Farmsum to the expansion into multiple successful operational sites across the Netherlands and the UK.
This story highlights the challenges of building strong cooperation between teams and locations, the importance of innovation and continuous improvement, and the impact N+P is making in creating a more sustainable future. It also showcases the passion that drives people in the recycling and waste industry to continue making a difference together.
Q: Can you introduce yourself and share your role at N+P?
"I’m Michael Kolijn. I’ve been working at N+P since 2010. I’ve spent more than twenty years in the recycling industry and currently work as Senior Project Manager."
Q: How did you end up joining N+P?
"At the company I worked for before N+P, we were involved in biomass, which created a connection with N+P. We worked together on a large project for several years. When N+P became heavily involved in the pellet plant in Farmsum, I was approached to help give the activities a strong boost."
Q: What was your start at N+P like?
"Farmsum was where my journey at N+P began. At the time, I was appointed as the responsible director. A lot of work had to be done to improve the cooperation between the locations, the office, and the factory. The first years were mainly focused on building a stable operation and creating a smooth-running pellet production process."
"Once you catch the recycling bug, it never really lets you go."
Q: What makes you most proud when you look at N+P’s growth?
"When I look at where we came from during my time at N+P — growing from one location to five successful locations — that’s really something special. We’ve already completed second and third renovations or upgrades at several sites. We keep moving forward in recycling and contributing to a better world."
Q: What keeps you connected to the recycling industry?
"Once you get into recycling or the waste industry, you somehow stay in it. Once you catch the bug, it never really lets you go."
Q: What makes N+P special to you?
"It doesn’t matter who you are or what your role is, we do it together. That’s what makes it enjoyable to stay here and continue making N+P more successful together."
