More than £30,000 for East Sussex green community projects

Recycling company N+P Crayford MRF Ltd and East Sussex County Council are calling for grant applications for the N+P in East Sussex Fund, which has £32,646 to donate to community projects.

N+P’s Head of Municipal Development, Stephen Martins said funding applications up to a value of £5,000 would be considered in terms of a set of criteria based around environmental sustainability, community involvement, local need, value for money and education. Projects must also be located within the administrative area of the county council.

In addition to this, successful applications will be those who demonstrate a local need, community participation and benefit, social inclusion and breadth of engagement and a strong benefit for the area through jobs, training, and skills. Stephen said:

“It is amazing to be able to identify and reward local projects within East Sussex that have such a positive impact. Those projects that have benefitted from funding already have demonstrated the immense change they can make for the residents of the community and the valuable environmental impact they have at the same time. We look forward to reviewing the next inspiring submissions .”

£27,354 has already been awarded to eight valuable projects in 2022, ranging from rewilding eco areas to community compost hubs.

Councillor Claire Dowling, lead member for Transport and Environment at East Sussex County Council, said:

“It is fantastic that eight projects have already secured funding through this initiative, and we are delighted to be working with N+P to support more environmental community projects across the county.

“We’d like to help as many groups as possible and with over £30,000 available I would strongly encourage local community groups to get in touch to see if they are eligible for a share of the funding pot.”

The deadline for applications is 31 March 2023. Applications will be evaluated by the N+P in East Sussex Board in April, which will include representatives of N+P and East Sussex County Council.

Funding is limited to £5,000 per application and will not be provided for: staffing, maintenance and running costs; projects where a statutory duty applies (services run by the local council); individuals seeking sponsorship or donations for charitable events such as fun runs or sky dives, etc.

N+P Crayford MRF Ltd processes around 50,000 tonnes of East Sussex County Council’s recycling each year. The company receives the county’s kerbside recycling, including paper, cardboard, plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays, aluminium cans, steel cans and glass from all five districts and boroughs.
