N+P UK Reduces CO2 Emissions up to 90% with HVO Fuel Transition

2 min read - published on July 23, 2025

N+P Group is committed to minimizing our environmental impact and driving sustainability throughout our operations. A recent initiative from our Procurement department in the UK, exemplifies this commitment: a strategic shift to Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) fuel. By transitioning to HVO, we are slashing CO2 emissions up to 90%, equivalent to 2,000 metric tonnes annually, across our UK sites (CRF and TSP). This not only supports our sustainability goals but also delivers significant cost savings, demonstrating that environmental responsibility and commercial value can go hand-in-hand.

“Procurement done right delivers more than savings — it drives change."

-  Anirudh Singh - Head of Procurement N+P Group

What is HVO100?
HVO100, or Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil, is a renewable diesel alternative made from 100% sustainable waste and residues, such as used cooking oil and other waste fats. Unlike conventional biodiesel, HVO is produced through hydrotreatment, a process that uses hydrogen to break down and reconfigure the molecules in the oil. This results in a fuel that is chemically very similar to fossil diesel, but with a significantly lower carbon footprint and improved performance in cold weather. It's a drop-in fuel, meaning it can be used in existing diesel engines without any modifications, making it an easy and effective way to reduce emissions.

Smart Solutions for a sustainable future
This initiative also includes the implementation of New Era Energy Smart Tanks, which provides advanced solutions to ensure fuel supply chain with a 20,000L Smart Tank at our Crayford MRF (Materials Recovery Facility), these Smart Tanks provide real-time fuel monitoring, high security standards, and easy management, ensuring uninterrupted operations and optimal efficiency. As is one of the most innovative and pioneering companies in the field of waste derived alternatives, N+P is proud to work with innovative solution providers such as New Era Energy. This approach not only cuts our carbon footprint but also protects us from supply chain disruptions," says UK management team.
